Oh right ... it's summertime in the US. - Lauri Apple - fhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/lauriapple/ Colors are dead-on in this shot, just in the shirt there's a massive gradient of blue. The 'summer-time' feel is right on also (people at tables, trees, wiffleball, sky)
Critique:
I think the shot is a bit too busy with 4 layers (him, trees, bushes, buildings). Also, the shot is trying to show motion, but the only blur going on is the hands, which make it seem like he hits with his wrists. I'd like to see him actually taking a gigantic swing with that smile on. Otherwise I just see him posing like a crazy-man.
He has a great smile too...kinda the 'build-a-bear' hug-able type :-D - Carlos Urreta - http://www.fortstreetpulse.com a good shot, once again... probably very well structured... but boring (personal opinion)
snowwhiterockhard - samsplanet I like the angle at which you took this. Love all the background colors and contrasts, Shimmy's pose, and the dynamic that it brings to the photo... but, something feels wrong about it too...can't really put my finger on it, I wish he was standing straight using the bat as a cane? I am curious what that would look like. - Ela For such an action shot, it looks a little static. Was it posed? - Jackomo To all those wondering.. yes it's an actual shot of him actually swinging.. it's not a static pose. - Bill Wadman - www.billwadman.com I like this photo just the way it is. - JA The different reactions are really interesting. I'm a big fan of this shot: the composition radiates summer in the city (the buildings, the grass & tress, the sunshine) & the subject is smiling, caught in this disarmingly childlike activity (wiffleball!). It's a photo that makes this 35-year old feel like going to the park, taking off his shoes & playing a game of tag. - nuno My sore back would agree with Bill. I took at least 75 swings with that bat using my best golf skills to keep my head in one place while Bill found the shot. - Shimmy - http://www.angelwish.org/wiffleball I love it! One of my favorites!! - Amber - http://www.sleepyheadcity.com/awake/blog/ yeah, i love it too! makes me think of exactly how i would feel on a day like that in the park playing wiffle ball.
i agree with the comment about a lot going on in the photo, but i think shimmy's placement is great. - jess what's a digital angel? - jess Holy fantasticness! I just clicked on Shimmy's (ps: great name!) homepage link under his comment, since I was also curious about what a digital angel was. What a terrific person -- you go, Shimmy! It made me realize: I wish there was a short 3 or 4 sentence blurb about the person behind each portrait. I wonder how many more amazing stories we've all missed. Then again, as I write that, I also realize part of the appeal of this project is the anonymity of each subject, allowing the viewer to imagine the possibilities behind each person. Well, there goes that realization -- now I'm all conflicted. - nuno I love this one. It feels so summery and light. Very, very nice. - Amy I love this one. It feels so summery and light. Very, very nice. - Amy Gotta agree with nuno - some folks you just want to know more about. This guy's got a heck of a smile. No way is that static. =) - AL you lot don't half talk a load of shit -
I'm Bill Wadman, a New York-based photographer who after completing my first 365 Project, and then a weekly 52 Project, took it upon myself to shoot and post one portrait every day of 2007. Each photo was taken that day, and each day was a different subject. Some were be in the studio, some in the wild. Hopefully they are all interesting.
