If he moves he hits the edge of the picture. This is uncomfortable positioning of the subject in the image space. He should have space to move into. Bill, you do this a lot. Is it on purpose? John Andrews

Austin, you strike me as a man full of beautifully human contradictions. Your face is open and kind, relaxed. And yet I see a subtle anger in your eyes, and in the position of your arms, that makes me feel like you're holding something back. And this makes me want to stare at your picture and figure out what that might be. (Perhaps you were thinking ahead to what Mr. Andrews' negative comment might be this time).

Handsome! It is a really nice to see that first thing in the morning ;) I like the lighting, you are always good at it, especially when in studio. It is true that he has no space to move into, but, this is one still photo... I don't expect him to move... I like this lack of symmetry, gives a little dynamism to the photo. I think that perfect symmetry only works with photos like that of Tiffany's on November 4th, or the one you took of me. This works really well here. Good job.

I understand John's point but I'm pretty sure he's not going to move.

i liked this one right away and I agree with ela about the symmetry. i feel like there's an intensity to the photo because of the contrast of the tight framing and asymmetry with austin's mellow gaze. feels a little out of control or off balance, but his face seems so calm and self assured. i like.

the handsome young man has come through in this photo; from the young boy from Simpson, Pa. to the gentleman with self-esteem and kind-heartedness. very beautiful ...Jean from Pennsylvania.

austin is so handsome that i was expecting a different picture altogether and was taken aback when i first saw this shot. but after looking at it for a while, i love it. bill, to me it seems that you were able to go beyond the superficial and get to the heart of austin. he is personable, tender, unassuming, and full of love. a giant of a person with the gentle spirit of a child. i don't see the anger in the eyes that someone else metioned, i see a touch of sadness. and the positioning of his arms make it look like he is supporting or protecting himself, like he is giving himself a tight hug. it's touching, and he looks gorgeous.

The composition is amazing, and I agree with a previous post in that I do feel a hint of sadness, meshed with a decisive confidence and classic coolness from Austin. The mood from his dark clothing and the equally dark background elude to the hint I feel in this shot...and I love it. Beautiful capture.

To me the portrait is shouting that Austin has followed his heart and has been true to himself. That is the true measure of success. The look in his eye is saying "I told you I could do it on my own and do it my way!" Technically, the picture is Intriguing and I like it more each time I view it.

I have to admit this one does make me feel a little anxious - the posture and the crop make it seem like the subject is holding his breath, either waiting to laugh, or jump, or maybe just waiting for the shoot to end. I'm having a hard time deciding whether or this effect makes the photo more or less strong.
