Thomas Gilner - Nihilistically Astute Sesquipedalian / Puck Building September 20, 2007
damn that is good.. you've perfected your style.. - Daniel Krieger - www.danielkrieger.com WOW! - Amanda Sesquipedalian = The act or practice of using large words when smaller words will do.
oh, i could think of some other synonyms for sesquipedalian, too :-)
great picture however... exquisite colouring. - samsplanet How the hell did you capture that fabulous glow of orange and golden yellow on the skyline ......and the sharpness of Thomas (in more ways than one) and wow...that wisp of cloud to the top right......I was going to say the gods were good to you Bill.....But Im sure Im just viewing a master at his craft......Stunning..... - Steve Dixon I love the colors and composition, but there's also an unmistakeable humor here. It's very interview-with-a-snarky-hipster-about-his-start-up-company, at the Puck Building, no less. Fun shot. - AL I like the background and the composition. But the flash used for Thomas has a color thats too cold in comparison with the background (at least I think thats how you did that). That's why it looks too seperated.
*** Nope, no flash. ;-P -bw
Edited By Siteowner - tf Ummmm this is the hottest realistic looking cartoonish photo i've ever seen! - Mary you missed out "giant" - "Nihilistically astute sesquipedalian giant".
that, or he's standing in the middle of a model village, clearly.
amazing photo; amazing effect. bravo. - Andrea - http://www.andreamann.com wow. wow!
ohh my goodness. I don't have any good feedback here, I'm totally in awe. - zed - http://www.zaedryn.com You've caught him disagreeing with whatever you just said - and that sort of sums him up. I'll have to disagree with the comment that says his colors are "too cold" against the background. The background goes from blue>neutral>orange>brown, and Thomas is the same gradient, it's just reversed - jeans>gray>skintone>brown. Very nice. - danny Brilliant. :) - Michelle *GASP!*
No, really -- as soon as the page loaded & the picture came up, I literally gasped out loud. Simply put: breathtaking. - nuno You captured the moment right after the "golden hour" when the sky starts to turn deep blue. I've never seen that done before. Very cool. - thymiane3000 - http://chiaroscuro-photo.blogspot.com/ This is one of my favorites so far. My first thought was that he looks so sleepy. I just love him up against this skyline and the magnificent lighting. I could never take this picture in a million years. Fabulous. - Elizabeth - http://hotforsheep.typepad.com Everyones comments are completely dead on. The orange glow and fade to blue is really special. The subject of the photo adds a real touch of intrigue. His face is not quite mischievous, and not quite arrogant, but meets somewhere in between.
Well done. - Mikey Love the perspective, colors, idea and his expression... need a good dictionary asap, please :) - Ela damn that's some shot. you caught the crazy NYC sundown and hard, high-contrast, superhero lighting just perfectly.
really stunning. thumbs up bill!
-nicole - nicole b That is my favorite so far. It's like a superhero jumping out of a comic book! - Spamboy - http://www.spamboy.com/ unbelievable. truly and honestly stunning.
...and the subject ain't half bad either! - story - prettylittlemess.wordpress.com This is amazing! By far one of my favorites - great job Bill! - Becca Brown This picture is so beautiful that it's almost surreal. - Diane holy moly, that is a way cool shot - youri There's something about the subject that seems flat and distorted, while the background seems perfectly normal. - Jen
I'm Bill Wadman, a New York-based photographer who after completing my first 365 Project, and then a weekly 52 Project, took it upon myself to shoot and post one portrait every day of 2007. Each photo was taken that day, and each day was a different subject. Some were be in the studio, some in the wild. Hopefully they are all interesting.
